Hollywood Carnival Ready for Bacchanal
20 Jul 2015
Every year, Caribbeans from Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, The Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago and many other islands flock to cities like Miami, Boston, Toronto and Big Bad Brooklyn for the carnivals that welcome all expatriates with the colors of paradise and the music that forces your heart to beat in the same rhythm.
Here comes Los Angeles, California! June 27th saw Hollywood Boulevard transform into Di Road. Masqueraders from bands that flaunted stunning sequins and feathers galore decorated this main Los Angeles roadway with colors and flair that made some unsuspecting onlookers gawk. Classic Caribbean gyrating hips donned in bright and bombastic costumes stopped traffic on the 101 Freeway down below as they partied past Hollywood and N Bronson towards Ivar. Motorists lucky enough to be stuck in the right place at the right time will never look at that stretch of Hollywood Boulevard the same ever again!
The King and Queen of soca music, Machel Montano and Allison Hinds were just two of the many amazing musical artists from a myriad of islands that played a major part of the jovial festivities leading up to the big fete on Hollywood Boulevard. Soca fans love an appetizer that tantalizes the party pallet for the main course and the mega fete at Club Cashmere the night before is just was just the right flavor.
This is just the 4th year that the Los Angeles Culture festival has been in existence. However, judging by the massive increase in attendance and participation, 2016’s carnival is expected to surpass 2015’s. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and our face paint ready!
