Ester Lou of Black & Sexy T.V.
28 Aug 2015
Ester Lou Weithers is a 21st century storyteller, eager to write and direct stories that reflect the cares of her generation. The daughter of a pastor, Ester learned the power of story at a young age.
However, her strict religious upbringing in Houston by her Caribbean immigrant parents prompted her to work in corporate America after leaving Florida A&M University. She flirted with a career in entertainment with stints at Lifetime, VH1 and Nickelodeon in New York City. But in 2011 she relocated to Los Angeles to dedicate herself to writing.
Ester Lou got her first taste of a television writers’ room as a writers’ PA on Showtime’s HOUSE OF LIES. She was promoted to assist the number-two writer and executive producer on the series providing research and random pop culture anecdotes.
In 2014, Ester joined the pioneering independent collective Black&Sexy TV to co-create and write the web series that would launch their subscription platform, SEXLESS. She was then tapped to co-create and write a spin-off, CHEF JULIAN, allowing her to also make her directorial debut.
Ester Lou sees herself as part nerd, part granola; she is a spicy food addict, a rookie aromatherapist and an ambassador for “boughie” eating habits around the world.
