2015 Leimert Park Village African Art and Music Festival in Los Angeles
23 Sep 2015
2015 Labor Day weekend marked the 7th annual Leimert Park Village African Art and Music Festival in Los Angeles, California. From the opening day African drum procession to the African drum circle that closed the weekend’s cultural events, jazz, blues, reggae, R & B, Afro beat, hip hop, rock, and neo soul music was the soulful soundtrack of the festival.
The stage was also filled with performances from a wide array of dancers, comedians and spoken word artists. The audience was always graced with great entertainment from around the community and the abroad.
Along with entertainment, the Leimert Park Village African Art and Music Festival is also a premier event for fine artists and craftspeople to showcase African centered arts and crafts. This year the fair was populated with booths showcasing the works of over 80 vendors who showcased amazing pieces of artwork in the forms of sculptures, paintings, garments, jewelry, quilts, pottery, hair care and skincare products. Black Syrup Media was at the festival and we highlighted some great artists and small businesses in our short video.
2015 marked the first time that a female fine artist, Diana Shannon Young, was selected as the featured artist for the annual festival. Diana Shannon Young is an amazing artist worthy of celebration. We look forward to more female artists being celebrated at the Leimert Park Village Festival and around the world!
